about mia heller

mia is the owner / director of legacy pilates, founded in 1995. mia has an extensive background in bodywork and wellness. she studied pilates in new york city with romana kryzanowska (chosen by joseph h. pilates to be the custodian of his method) for nearly three years and became certified in authentic pilates in 1992.

mia is also a massage therapist, licensed by the brian utting school of massage in 1998, and specializes in thai yoga massage, therapeutic swedish, deep tissue, and pregnancy massage. 

mia has been featured in national magazines for her work in pilates; women’s sports and fitness, shape, elle, and fit new york. she has worked with hundreds of clients with capabilities ranging across the fitness spectrum and has a phenomenal reputation with both her clientele as well as the national pilates community. mia’s clients include; athletes, dancers, pilates instructors, celebrities, and physical therapy patients. 

mia began dancing at the age of two, assistant teaching at the age of 15, and ran the margaret tapping school of dance at the age of 17. mia earned a bfa in dance from cornish college of the arts in 1990. in addition, she danced professionally with the london contemporary in england and in the caribbean as sports and fitness director for royal caribbean cruise line. 

mia's background in dance, coupled with her deep understanding for the body, has enabled her to establish herself as one of the leading pilates instructors on the west coast. her clients appreciate her finely tuned eye for technique, attention to detail, and her passion for what she does.
